Spiritual accounting 102

In response to a recent stewardship initiative, Stacey and I decided to make a contribution. As the Lord led, the amount I felt we should give was a bit uncomfortable. Not ACL-tear uncomfortable, mind you—more like running on a sore ankle.

I remember thinking that God could somehow make provision for our giving, but that the way in which He would provide was outside my sphere of knowledge.

Some time later, our insurance agent called me out of the blue and asked for some updated information, and she also shared that she thought she could get us a better rate on our car insurance than we currently had. This sounded great, of course, but not as good as the news that she actually had been able to cut our premium by a substantial amount. As it turned out, the amount we saved was greater than the amount of the Advil-worthy contribution.

Apparently God’s control of the P&L goes below the Total Revenue line.
